UCF Communications & Marketing develops and executes a media relations strategy focused on achieving the university’s goals, desired outcomes and established metrics. The high-performing team collaborates across Advancement & Partnerships, throughout the university and with UCF’s partners to deliver aligned results and strengthen the university’s reputation.
The Opportunity: The Communications Manager will lead strategic communications initiatives focused on promoting UCF’s reputation, including activities related to academic programs, fundraising, research, student success, and community impact. This position will help to lead UCF’s efforts to expand coverage in national media and other strategic publications while identifying, developing, and pitching stories that demonstrate how UCF unleashes the potential of our students, faculty, and staff to positively change the world.
Responsibilities: Identifies, develops, and pitches news stories about UCF’s academic excellence, student success, faculty expertise and innovation, partnerships, and community impact.
Effectively responds to incoming media requests for information and interviews with UCF experts. Assist faculty and staff in strategically preparing for interviews as needed.
Leads UCF Communications’ strategic interactions with Marketing content staff and communicators representing UCF’s colleges and divisions, to help ensure that collaborative efforts are focused on supporting UCF’s mission and goals.
Leads or assists with partnership projects within the Communications & Marketing division, or with other UCF departments and colleges.
Provides strategic counsel to administrators, faculty, and staff regarding media opportunities and interviews.
Coordinates or assists with news conferences, other media events, and other campus events where media are present as needed.
Assist with responsibilities related to departmental metrics, such as compiling news clips and departmental reports
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and 4+ years of relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications: Ability to write compelling, easy-to-understand, and accurate news stories and media pitches aligned with an organization’s mission.
Strong verbal communication skills with a variety of stakeholders
Ability to work effectively in teams, both in leadership and support roles
Experience leading projects and teams in a highly collaborative environment

Work Schedule: UCF business hours are 8:00am – 5:00pm. Some flexibility may be needed for nights or weekends. Remote or hybrid work options may be available as per UCF policy and with supervisory approval.
Expected Salary: $64,518.00 to $80,648
